What appliance installation involves, appliance by appliance
Dishwashers
Dishwasher appliance installation means a water supply line, drain hose with a high loop or air gap, and the electrical connection. The classic trap is a garbage disposer with a knockout plug still in its inlet; if the plug is not removed, the new dishwasher will never drain.
Washers and dryers
A washer needs two hoses, a drain standpipe at the right height, and a level base. Leveling matters more than most people realise, because a washer that rocks will walk during spin. A dryer needs the correct power cord for its outlet (three-wire or four-wire) and a short, smooth, rigid vent run to the outside. Gas dryers need a flexible connector and a leak check at the joints.
Refrigerators and ice makers
The water line for an ice maker or dispenser needs a proper shutoff and no kinks, and the unit must sit level with the doors aligned. Leave space for airflow behind and at the top.
Ranges, cooktops and ovens
Freestanding ranges need an anti-tip bracket, the correct cord and a level top. Wall ovens must fit the cabinet cutout exactly, and a built-in needs the right electrical supply behind it.
Microwaves
Over-the-range units are mounted to wall studs with a template, and the vent needs to be connected to the duct or set to recirculate.
What you can safely prepare before the visit
- Measure the opening, including the depth with the door open, and compare it with the appliance specification sheet.
- Clear a path from the door to the spot, and clear the area under and around the old appliance.
- Find the water shutoff valves and the breaker panel, and label them if they are not labelled.
- Check the outlet type for a dryer or range, because the cord must match.
- Keep the new appliance in its packaging until we arrive, and keep the manual and any hose kits.
Stop and call us if you smell gas, see a damaged cord or outlet, find a water valve that will not close or discover that the outlet needs rewiring. We connect appliances to existing hookups. New gas lines, new electrical circuits and structural changes are work for a gas fitter or an electrician. Never force a stuck gas valve.
Gas or electric, built-in or freestanding
Gas and electric versions of the same appliance need different hookups: a gas range has a connector and shutoff valve, an electric one a 240-volt cord. Built-in appliance installation needs careful measuring, sometimes trim kits, and more time. Freestanding units are quicker but still need leveling and, for ranges, the anti-tip bracket. Poor appliance installation is a reason for leaks and early failures, and they are why we often service units that were installed elsewhere.

Which appliances do you install?+
We install dishwashers, washers, dryers, refrigerators, ranges, ovens, microwaves and the other appliances we repair. Tell us the make and model when you book so we can plan the fittings and time.
Can you connect a new gas range?+
We connect appliances to existing hookups. We do not run new gas lines. If you smell gas or the shutoff valve is damaged, leave, call the gas utility and have the line fixed before we install.
Do I need to buy hoses or cords myself?+
Some appliances ship without them. Check the box and the manual, and tell us what is included. A dryer cord must match the outlet, and a washer needs new hoses rather than old ones.
Why is my new dishwasher not draining?+
The most common reason is a disposer knockout plug that was never removed, or a drain hose without a high loop. We check both during installation so the dishwasher drains the first time.
Will you remove the old appliance?+
Ask us when you book. We will tell you what we can do on the day, so you can plan removal if it is not part of the visit.
