What is different about a Samsung appliance
Modern Samsung refrigerators and washers lean on electronics. Many have a main control board, a display, sensors and a variable-speed motor or compressor, rather than a plain timer and a single-speed motor. That is good for efficiency, but it changes how we troubleshoot: we read the error code first, then confirm it with a meter before replacing anything. Samsung also owns the Dacor brand in the US, which is why Dacor ovens and Samsung ovens sometimes share electronics.
Common Samsung appliance repair problems and likely causes
Refrigerator
- Fridge warm, freezer cold: a frozen evaporator from a defrost fault, or a failed evaporator fan. Frost on the back wall of the freezer points that way.
- Ice maker not making ice: a frozen fill tube, a failed water inlet valve, or a clogged water filter. See our refrigerator repair page for what we check.
- Clicking from the back, then silence: a compressor start problem, or a fan that is hitting ice.
Washer and dryer
- Washer will not drain: a clogged drain pump filter or a pump that has failed. Check the small filter door at the bottom front, after switching the washer off at the wall.
- Violent shaking on spin: an unlevel machine, worn suspension or a failed shock. See washer repair.
- Dryer runs but stays damp: a blocked vent first, then a heating element or thermal fuse. We never bypass a thermal fuse. Our dryer repair page explains the order.
Dishwasher and range
- Dishwasher leaves water standing: a clogged filter or drain hose, or a drain pump fault.
- Oven will not heat: a failed bake element or igniter, or a control fault. If you smell gas, leave the house, avoid switches and flames, and call the gas utility.
Where to find the model number
On a Samsung refrigerator, Samsung’s support pages say the model and serial number are on a label inside the top left of the fresh food compartment, and a second label is outside at the bottom left. Washers and dryers usually carry a label at the back or on the door frame. Take a phone photo of it before you book, it saves a trip for parts.

Samsung questions
Does an error code mean the board has failed?+
Not always. A code points to a circuit or sensor. A loose connector, a failed sensor or a wet harness can set the same code as a bad board, so we test before replacing it.
Should I reset the appliance before you come?+
Unplugging a refrigerator or washer for a few minutes is a safe reset. Leave it unplugged long enough to clear the code, then note whether the code returns and tell us.
Do you repair Samsung and Dacor ovens?+

Is the $80 service call credited to the repair?+
Ask when you book. We quote the repair price after the technician looks at the appliance.
