Samsung Washer Error Codes

Samsung Washer Error Codes: find your code, try the safe step, and book if it does not clear.

Every code in this guide comes from Samsung’s own US support page for washing machine information and error codes. That page lists far more codes than we cover here. We picked the ones people run into most and added what we would check at the machine. Codes vary by model, and some models with no display show blinking lights instead, so confirm against your owner’s manual.

Before you touch anything

Switch the washer off and unplug it, or turn off its breaker, before you clean a filter, move a hose or open anything. Close the water valves before you unscrew a hose. Never open the control panel or touch the control board. Have towels ready for drain-filter work.

1E, LE, 1C or LC: water level or leakage

Samsung says the washer has detected moisture where it should not be, or the sensor itself is faulty.

Look for a leak first, and check that neither hose is kinked. Run an empty cycle with no detergent or softener. If suds show up, you used too much detergent or the wrong kind (use HE). If there are no suds and the code stays, stop and book service.

4C, nF or 4E: not filling

Water is not getting into the washer the way it should.

Hot hose on the hot inlet, cold on cold, no bends, both valves fully open. Samsung also says not to use Flood Safe hoses, and to keep the drain hose 6 to 8 inches into the drain pipe. Cut power for a minute and clean the inlet filters. If the code continues, it is a service job.

4C2, 4E2 or CE: hot and cold hoses swapped

The cold inlet is getting very hot water because the hoses are on the wrong inlets.

Swap them so cold goes to cold and hot to hot (usually blue and red). Samsung says this one needs no service. Close both valves before you unscrew anything.

5C, nd, 5E, SC or SE: no drain

The water is not leaving at the right speed, or at all.

Samsung points to its water-not-draining guide. The usual homeowner checks are a kinked drain hose and a dirty pump filter at the bottom front of the machine. Switch it off and have towels ready before opening the filter. A pump that hums but moves nothing needs a technician.

OC, OE or 0C: overflow

Samsung describes this as too much water in the washer, and it points to the same guide as the drain codes.

Treat it as a drain problem first. If water is still rising or leaking onto the floor, close the supply valves and unplug the washer. Do not keep restarting it.

dC, dE, dS, FL or LO: door error

The washer does not detect the door as closed and locked.

Make sure nothing is caught in the door and that it shuts fully and the latch is secure. If the latch or door is damaged, Samsung says to request service. With Child Lock on and water in the tub, the washer drains after about 30 seconds when the door stays open.

E2, bE2 or 6E2: jammed button

A panel button is stuck or pressed all the time.

Power off, then press and release each button a few times to free it. On some models BE2 and 8E2 mean a MEMS sensor error instead, so check the manual. If a button looks damaged or the code returns, book service.

9C1, 9C2, PF, 2E or UC: voltage

The electrical supply to the washer is irregular. PF means the power was interrupted, for example by an outage, unplugging or a tripped breaker.

Confirm the washer has its own circuit and is not on an extension cord. Samsung notes that 3E is a voltage code on some models and a motor code on others. If it keeps coming back, have it looked at.

SUd, 5UD or Sd: excess suds

The washer is pausing so the suds can settle, then it carries on.

No service is needed. Use less detergent and the HE kind. The code can flash once more at the end as a reminder.

Ub, UE or Ur: unbalanced load

The load sits unevenly in the drum, so the spin cannot run. Ur is a retry: the washer adds water and rebalances, which makes the cycle longer.

Untangle the laundry, spread it out, close the door and press Start. A single heavy item like a comforter is the usual cause. If it keeps happening with normal loads, a levelling or suspension problem is possible.

SDC or 5DC: detergent drawer

The detergent drawer is not fully closed.

Push it in until it clicks. Samsung lists this as a status message, not a fault.

HC, HE or Hr: heater error

Samsung lists these as heater errors but gives no model-specific steps.

Its general advice applies: power off for 2 to 3 minutes, power on and restart the cycle. If the code returns, stop. Heater parts are not a homeowner repair.

When to call a technician

If a code comes back after the steps above, or the manufacturer’s page says it needs service, our technician can come to your home. Start with our washer repair page, or book a visit (you can also call us). The service call is $80, and the repair price is quoted after the technician has looked at the machine.

We service Samsung and other major brands; see Samsung appliance repair. Top Town is an independent repair company, not affiliated with or authorized by Samsung.

FAQ

Questions about samsung washer error codes

Do Samsung washer codes mean the same thing on every model?

Not always. Samsung's own page notes that some codes, such as 3E, mean different things on different models, and blinking-light models show a pattern instead of letters. Check your manual for the exact model.

What does Samsung say to do if a code is not listed?

The page's general advice is to turn the washer off for 2 to 3 minutes, turn it back on and restart the cycle. If the code appears again, request service.

Which Samsung washer codes need no repair at all?

Samsung says the hot and cold hose swap codes (4C2, 4E2, CE) and the excess suds codes need no service, and a few others are only status messages, such as Cb during calibration.
