Samsung Dishwasher Error Codes

Samsung Dishwasher Error Codes: find your code, try the safe step, and book if it does not clear.

Samsung’s US support page for dishwashers that show an error code is the source for everything below. It lists about twenty codes. We cover the 11 homeowners see most. Codes vary by model, and Samsung says to do the troubleshooting before you clear a code, or the fault may come straight back.

Before you touch anything

Turn the dishwasher off, and switch off its breaker before you clean a filter or look under the machine. Never open the control panel or touch the control board. Never pull the dishwasher out of its cabinet while it is connected to power or water. Wet floor first: mop it up and keep the machine off.

1E or IE: two different meanings

On WaterWall models Samsung says this is a clogged filter: water is not passing through the fine filter. On rotary models it is a high-temperature heater error, meaning the inside is too hot.

WaterWall: switch off, clean the fine filter at the bottom of the tub following your manual, and request service if the code returns. Rotary: turn off the breaker for 30 seconds, empty the dishwasher, fill the detergent drawer and run a Normal cycle. If it recurs, service.

3C: pump operation error

Samsung says the pump has failed.

Turn the dishwasher off and restart the cycle. If 3C stays, request service. Do not run it repeatedly, since a failed pump leaves water standing in the tub.

3E: water supply too hot

The incoming water is too hot.

Samsung says to confirm the hot water supply is not set above 176 degrees F. Turning down a water heater is a job to do carefully, following its label. If the water is not that hot and 3E continues, request service.

4C or 4E: water supply

The dishwasher is not getting water at the pressure or temperature it needs.

Samsung points to its water supply requirements guide. The simple checks are that the supply valve under the sink is fully open and the inlet hose is not kinked.

5C, SC, 5E or SE: drain error

The dishwasher cannot drain.

Samsung points to its dishwasher-not-draining guide. Check the drain hose for kinks and the disposal knockout plug if you have a new disposal. Standing water with a hum from the bottom usually means the pump or its filter.

9E: low water level

There is not enough water in the dishwasher.

Empty it, add detergent and run a Normal cycle. If 9E persists, turn off power at the breaker and request service.

bE or 6E: button error

The panel detects a stuck button.

Turn the dishwasher off and touch every button. If any button does not work correctly, or the code returns after a restart, request service.

LC or LE: leakage error

The leak sensor detects moisture. Samsung says the dishwasher turns on, will not turn off, and tries to drain the water.

On WaterWall models check whether the water reflector is blocked. Look under the machine and at the door seal for the source. Switch off at the breaker if water keeps coming. Do not pull the dishwasher out while it is live.

OC, 0C or oE: too much water

There is more water in the dishwasher than expected.

Samsung points to its drain and overflow errors guide. Treat it as a drain or fill-valve problem, and shut off the water supply if the tub keeps filling.

HE or tE: heater and temperature sensor

HE means the interior temperature is detected incorrectly (heater error). tE is a temperature sensor error that gives the same reading problem.

Empty the dishwasher, add detergent and run a Normal cycle. If the code persists, turn off power at the breaker and request service. Heaters and sensors are for technicians.

CE: communication error

The control panel cannot communicate with the rest of the dishwasher.

Turn the dishwasher off and restart it. If CE continues, request service. This is a control-side fault, so do not open the panel.

When to call a technician

If a code comes back after the steps above, or the manufacturer’s page says it needs service, our technician can come to your home. Start with our dishwasher repair page, or book a visit (you can also call us). The service call is $80, and the repair price is quoted after the technician has looked at the machine.

FAQ

Questions about samsung dishwasher error codes

Is a Samsung dishwasher code the same on every model?

No. Samsung's page itself splits 1E and IE into two meanings depending on whether the dishwasher is a WaterWall or a rotary model, and models without a display show flashing lights instead.

Should I clear the code before I troubleshoot?

Samsung's page says to do the troubleshooting steps before resetting or clearing the code. Otherwise the cause may stay and the code returns.

What do I do for a code that is not on this page?

Samsung's page lists other codes too, such as AP, PC and PE. Check your manual, and for anything you cannot clear, request service.
