LG Washer Error Codes

LG Washer Error Codes: find your code, try the safe step, and book if it does not clear.

These meanings come from LG’s US help library page, the front-load washer error code list. LG also publishes older and model-specific lists, and codes vary by model, so a code on your display may be spelled slightly differently there. We kept to the 12 that homeowners see most and added what we would check first.

Before you touch anything

Unplug the washer, or switch off its breaker, before you clean the drain filter, move the machine or check a hose. Close the water taps before removing a hose. Do not open the control panel or touch the control board. If water is on the floor, stop the machine and unplug it before you mop around it.

OE: water will not drain

LG’s list gives a kinked hose, a clogged drain pump filter or too many suds as the usual causes.

Straighten the drain hose, then run a spin-only cycle and listen for the pump hum. Clean the drain pump filter, run a Tub Clean and use less detergent. If OE returns after that, it needs service.

IE: water inlet error

The tub is not filling within the expected time.

Check the faucet is open and the hose is connected and not bent. LG says a frozen hose can cause this; thaw it with warm water. Clean the inlet filter. If it persists, the water supply valve may be faulty, which is a repair.

UE: unbalanced load

The laundry is bunched to one side and the drum cannot spin up.

Take out anything that should not go in a machine, do not fill the drum past about two thirds, and spread the load. Laundry nets should be two thirds full and washed with other items. LG also says to level the washer.

dE1: door not closed

The door did not close or lock properly. LG says laundry caught in the gasket is a common cause.

Open the door, clear anything caught in the seal and shut it again. If the code continues, power off, unplug, hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds, then restore power. If it still shows, service is needed.

dE2: door closed but not locked

Causes on LG’s list are overloading, items caught in the gasket, or a bent or broken latch.

Clear the door area, close it again and do the same power reset as for dE1. If dE2 stays, request service rather than forcing the door.

LE: tub will not spin

LG says this usually comes from an overload or a foreign object in the tub.

Unplug for 5 minutes and try again. Reduce the load, use the Bedding cycle for heavy items and check the tub for coins or other objects. If it persists, unplug the washer and contact service.

CE: motor over-current

LG lists a short, a loose connection, a ground fault or a power surge as possible causes.

Unplug for 10 seconds and start a cycle. If CE returns, close the water tap, leave it unplugged and book a repair. The motor circuit is not a do-it-yourself area.

FE: water overfill

More water is in the tub than there should be, possibly from extra water coming through the detergent dispenser.

See whether water is running in through the dispenser. Unplug for 60 seconds, restart, then run a Quick 30 and confirm it drains. If FE comes back, have the washer inspected. A fill valve that sticks open can flood a laundry room.

PE: water level sensor

LG says the water level sensor is malfunctioning.

Unplug for 10 seconds, plug back in and restart. A second appearance means a repair.

tE: heating error

LG says this is usually a faulty thermistor.

Unplug for 10 seconds and restart. LG then suggests selecting no spin with the spin-speed button, draining the washer and restarting the cycle. If tE persists, close the taps, unplug and book service.

AE: leak detected

The leak safety switch has tripped. LG lists a leak, a damaged inlet hose or a faulty switch.

Look at the inlet hose for loose fittings or cuts. Unplug for 60 seconds, then restart. If AE returns, do not keep running it; request service.

Sud: too many suds

The washer adds a suds-reducing step, which LG says can add about 2 hours.

Use only HE detergent in the recommended amount. Liquid goes to the Max line, powder never goes in the liquid cup, and one pod per load goes in the drum. This is not a fault.

When to call a technician

If a code comes back after the steps above, or the manufacturer’s page says it needs service, our technician can come to your home. Start with our washer repair page, or book a visit (you can also call us). The service call is $80, and the repair price is quoted after the technician has looked at the machine.

We service LG and other major brands; see LG appliance repair. Top Town is an independent repair company, not affiliated with or authorized by LG.

FAQ

Questions about lg washer error codes

What do dE1 and dE2 mean on an LG washer?

On LG's list dE1 means the door did not close or lock, often from laundry caught in the gasket. dE2 means the door is closed but not locked, which can come from overloading or a bent or broken latch.

Do LG washer codes differ between models?

Yes. LG's help library has separate lists, and its newer list uses codes such as E01 or E21 alongside OE and IE on some models. The page says it covers all models, so check your manual too.

Are CL and tCL errors?

No. On LG's list CL means child lock is on, and tCL is a reminder to run a Tub Clean cycle.
